Before we embark on the journey of creating datasets, let’s grasp the concept of datasets in AWS QuickSight. Datasets serve as the foundation for analysis, representing the structured and organized form of your raw data. - Click on ‘Datasets’.
- Click on ‘New dataset’.
- Scroll down until you see ‘FROM EXISTING DATA SOURCES’.
- This displays all the ‘Data Sources’ you can access and have the ability to create custom ‘Datasets’.
- Next, once you identify the Data Source you want to create a ‘Dataset’ from, click that Data Source.

- Here, you can ‘Choose your table’ or ‘Use custom SQL’.
- Next, you can choose to switch to ‘Use custom SQL’ or if you want to continue with the QuickSight Visual insight drag and drop capability select ‘Edit/Preview data’.
- Clicking on ‘Edit/Preview data’ will take you to a new window where you can Edit and Preview the data to make it customized. We will go over ‘Edit/Preview data’ in second blog as part of a four AWS QuickSight blog series.
- Once a table is selected, click on ‘Select’.
- Ensure that the Dataset name is configured.
- The ‘Dataset name’ will be displayed on the Top Left side.
- Once all the changes are done and you added all the Table(s) needed, click ‘SAVE & PUBLISH’.
